Sustainable Paremoremo is grassroots, community-led group working to care for our local environment, support one another, and help Paremoremo thrive — now and for future generations.

Since 2009, we’ve brought people together to restore native bush, improve water quality, manage pests, plant food-producing trees, and strengthen community connections. We believe real change starts with local action.

Our Vision

To reconnect and restore native ecosystems across Paremoremo and surrounding areas, creating a thriving habitat for birds, wildlife, and people as part of the Northwest Wildlink corridor.

Our Mission

To empower our community through hands-on projects, education, environmental stewardship, and resilience-building initiatives.
We work with residents, schools, iwi, local government, and volunteers to:

  • Plant native trees on private and public land
  • Control pests like rats and possums to protect native wildlife
  • Protect waterways and improve stream health
  • Grow food resilience through community orchards and gardens
  • Educate and connect through workshops, events, and partnerships
  • Strengthen community resilience through local networks, emergency planning, and shared resources

A Community That Leads By Example

From our Kai Rākau food forest and Sky School education project to pest control initiatives, stream cleanups, ANZAC Day celebrations, and community resilience efforts — our projects are rooted in care: for the land, for each other, and for future generations.

Our Committee

Sustainable Paremoremo is guided by a passionate and dedicated committee made up of local residents who care deeply about our environment, our community, and the future of our valley.

Our committee members bring a diverse mix of skills, backgrounds, and experiences—from conservation and education to project management and community engagement. What unites us is a shared commitment to building a more connected, resilient, and sustainable Paremoremo.

We meet regularly to plan, coordinate, and support a wide range of community-led initiatives. While each member contributes in their own way, we work collaboratively and in close partnership with volunteers, local groups, and other stakeholders.

This is a working committee—hands-on, practical, and always looking for new ways to support the land and people of Paremoremo. We believe in leading by example and making sustainability part of everyday life.
